Stir Down - California Lane - The team behind 1st Edition and Viva La Cali is continuing its barnstorming run of bespoke boozer concepts, taking over another slice of real estate on California Lane for Stir Down – an intimate drinker that specialises in, well, stir-down cocktails. Stir-down drinks are typically ones that are almost entirely spirits based (think negronis, Manhattans or martinis) that are best stirred, not shaken, before serving. The tiny 20-seater bar will serve a tidy cocktail list with around eight options, each offering a different take on a classic recipe. Stir Down’s selection of concoctions will be changing regularly, while a list of boutique wines will also be on hand for those after something different. Suzie Wong’s Good Time Bar - Bakery Lane - "Suzie Wong’s Good Time Bar is a Hawaiian-inspired boozer that’s less a tiki-themed tipple joint and more of a grungy surf shack serving up cocktails, live music and cracking good times! Accessed through a retro fridge door directly off Ann Street in the middle of Brisbane’s party precinct, Fortitude Valley. Suzie Wong’s is a truly good time bar where five nights a week, punters can hit the dance floor to live music, from acoustic sets to bands of every music genre, from rock’n’ roll to country and western, blues and funk. Viva La Cali - California Lane - is heavy on the Southern California vibes, but inspired by the flavours of Central and South America. Though undercover, the venue feels completely outdoors, with dark wooden panels hiding it from the laneway, hanging plants overhead and bright, Cali-inspired murals on the walls. The cocktail menu adds to the LA vibes—margaritas are of course a signature, with creations like the Bugs Bunny Margarita made with sour carrot juice, but there’s also a rosé cocktail topped with a house-made fruit roll up calling your name. On the food menu you can expect everything from banh mi-style tacos and fish ceviche to Peruvian empanadas and King River wagyu. Our recommendation? Bring a crew and order one of everything. Don’t skip out on dessert either, because the Viva La Top Deck with spiced mango is worth lingering over- Urban List Brisbane 2023
